[F1 2018 NEWS FEATURE] FORCE INDIA: TOUGHEST CHALLENGE

Force India is heading into its fiercest battle yet, in trying to retain fourth in the constructors’ standings, and see off the challenge from its resurgent midfield rivals Renault, Haas, McLaren and Toro Rosso.

It’s also got to keep its drivers Sergio Pérez, and Esteban Ocon, in check as both seek to prove outright supremacy over the other, and their fitness for a more competitive drive higher up the grid.

SOUNDBITE (English) SERGIO PÉREZ,
F1 DRIVER, FORCE INDIA:
“Yeah, definitely it’s a big year. Every year we say the same, but I believe that this year is an important one for my career, important one for Esteban and also a crucial one for Force India, too.”

But while the pair’s 2017 season was marked by several clashes on-track in Azerbaijan, Hungary and twice in Belgium.

…things calmed down towards the end of the season especially following a team ban on racing each other, an order since lifted.

SOUNDBITE (English) ESTEBAN OCON,
F1 DRIVER, FORCE INDIA:
“Yeah, ready and reset. Today we’ve been working together. It was the seat fit yesterday, and everything is fine. We worked well together the last season at the end, so there’s no reason why we can’t continue.”

And while the intensity of the fight will remain, results the ultimate decider, the chance of clashes and team order requests won’t likely be as frequent Force India no longer locked into its own battle between the top teams and midfield, as it has been for the past few seasons.

It’s, therefore, huge motivation for the compact Silverstone squad to make another step forward before Australia… doing as Force India always does, adding performance on a shoestring budget.

SOUNDBITE (English) SERGIO PÉREZ,
F1 DRIVER, FORCE INDIA:
“It’s going to be a massive fight. I think it’s going to be the most challenging year for Force India so far. But I believe in this team. And I think we are up for the fight.”
