[F1 2018 VIDEO FEATURE] FORCE INDIA: BACK ON FORM

Racing Point Force India has always enjoyed plenty of support in Mexico, with Sergio Pérez joining the team a year before the race returned to the F1 calendar in 2015…

But it’s likely to dominate headlines on its return this time, with the rumour mill in overdrive the squad will announce Lance Stroll as partner to Pérez – for next season, creating an all-Americas outfit.

Stroll’s switch to Force India from 2019 is inevitable, given it’s now owned by a consortium led by his billionaire father Lawrence…

…releasing Lance from a difficult two-season tenure at Williams, with this year’s FW41 a disaster: a concept-level miscalculation said to have been made in the amount of cooling required…

… forcing compromises to be made that affected the aerodynamics.

But, while Stroll has scored points just twice this year, in Azerbaijan and at Monza, he said to The Inside Line he’s not worried that his reputation could have been tarnished racing in inferior machinery…

AUDIO QUOTE (English) LANCE STROLL,
F1 DRIVER, WILLIAMS:
“I don’t care. As long as the important people in my eyes are on the same page as me and know what’s going on. That’s all that matters.”

The Canadian is set to join Pérez, who it’s said signed his extension for 2019 with the squad before it was put into administration…

2019 will be Pérez’s ninth year in F1, his sixth with Force India – and he’ll be a strong benchmark for Stroll as a pugnacious point scorer, one who’s also been on the podium, initially delivering giant killing performances at Sauber, before moving to McLaren in a single-season flop.

And 2019 could be the beginning of a Force India renaissance, the team’s creditors paid off and recruitment again on the rise – meaning more development, and in turn better performance.

It’s a dangerous proposition for its close rivals, with Force India known for producing the best bang for buck in the Formula 1 pit lane.
