[F1 2018 VIDEO FEATURE] RED BULL RACING: INTEGRATING HONDA

Daniel Ricciardo is set to remain in Red Bull Racing colours, at least into 2019, with the 29-year-old admitting that its a very realistic option to again partner teammate Max Verstappen.

But while it may seem like a step into the unknown, with the Milton Keynes operation switching from Renault to Honda power through to 2020…

…the work is well underway in understanding the power unit, and how it will work in the next RB15 chassis. The evaluation beginning at Toro Rosso even before the squad’s shakedown at Misano in February this year.

SOUNDBITE (English) CHRISTIAN HORNER,
TEAM PRINCIPAL, RED BULL RACING:
“We have been in a privileged position to have a front-row seat this year to monitor the progress of how Honda have been getting on in our sister team at Toro Rosso versus, obviously, our own power supply. And it has been great to see that progress.”

And, once its partnership with French marque Renault ends after a dozen seasons together and 58 victories, which includes Verstappen’s in Austria, Red Bull can accelerate development using both its teams.

SOUNDBITE (English) CHRISTIAN HORNER,
TEAM PRINCIPAL, RED BULL RACING:
“Of course there are synergies there and it only helps create further synergies between the two teams by having both powered by the same power unit. So, yes, there are definite benefits from common supply both for Honda - and for Red Bull’s activities in Formula 1.”

And while Toro Rosso is currently eighth in the constructors’ standings, its 19 point haul scored at just three rounds with Bahrain the highlight, Pierre Gasly qualifying sixth and finishing fourth for 12 points…

It’s all feeding back to Red Bull’s top team to ensure a stronger campaign from the outset in 2019, when the spotlight will really be on Honda…

Ricciardo is also not backing off his pace, despite the Australian said to be disappointed that more interest didn’t come from Ferrari and Mercedes, with the F1 world championship still a lofty target to climb. And lots to learn, even in unexpected ways…

SOUNDBITE (English) DANIEL RICCIARDO,
F1 DRIVER, RED BULL RACING:
“Shauna taught me a bit about my scaps actually, my scapula, cos we're driving a lot of the time we're in this position with our you know shoulders rolled forward and it's not ideal so she taught me a few things actually how to strengthen my scaps and how to kind of hold a stronger and better posture.”
