[F1 2019 VIDEO FEATURE] ALEX ALBON: SETTLING IN

Alexander Albon continues to impress at Red Bull Racing, just 16 starts into his Formula 1 career, four with the brand’s flagship squad.

There’s no doubt it’s been a baptism of fire. His call-up to Red Bull’s top team from Belgium onwards, replacing Pierre Gasly, bringing exploding pressure and interest in equal measure.

… as Albon experienced en-route to the Singapore Grand Prix.

SOUNDBITE (English) ALEXANDER ALBON,
F1 DRIVER, RED BULL RACING:
“I was in the passport control just coming here today, and the security guard doing my stamps, so it was like he wanted a photo and everything, so it's amazing to see the increase in Formula 1, it just makes it feel more real. It's quite scary at the same time.”

Albon’s challenge is a fearsome one as well in having to match his top gun teammate Max Verstappen. The gig seen in some quarters as F1’s poisoned chalice.

But so far Albon has outscored Verstappen on points with four top-six finishes, and even came home ahead of the Dutchman at the Italian Grand Prix. He was then directly behind him in Russia.

… where he secured fifth place - equalling his career best result, despite starting from the pit lane and looking off Verstappen’s pace all weekend at the technical Sochi Autodrom.

So, the future looks bright for Albon as just the second F1 driver to race under the Thai flag since Prince Bira in 1954.

…with the next step being a podium. But while Albon would love nothing more than that, he’s keeping his feet on the ground.

SOUNDBITE (English) ALEXANDER ALBON,
F1 DRIVER, RED BULL RACING:
“We'll see - that [winning] would be a nice goal and of course to kind of wave the flag and just to kind of show that Thailand can compete in the top level, would always be a dream of mine.”

So it’s game on for Albon, as he seeks to stay calm and deliver in the toughest seat on the grid. And with Honda’s home race ahead.
